Y'know, "Do the Right Thing" is almost 20 years old (friggin TWENTY!), and it seems to me that a whole lotta people these days either forgot about it, or never saw it, or blew it off as "Black Militant Propaganda," difficult as it may be to believe that people still buy that racist line 'o' dismissal. How fucked up/fuckin awesome is it that a buncha plasticene peg people are bringin Spike Lee's message back to the forefront of the pale, postmodern palaver that passes for The Majority in this society?
And seriously, "DTRT" was based on a very similar riot that took place in the 20s or 30s...I thought. I used to know this bit of information and now cannot find a single link between film and actual event anywhere on the blessed/cursed internet. Do you know what riot I'm talkin about?
